REX for Kids
To our youngest audience (age 4 and up) we offer six films showcasing a variety of techniques and stories. In this block, toys come alive and sporty animals are up for competition. After loss and winter, there will always be a spring. Join a bird with an urge to dance or team up with a dachshund whose limbs are disagreeing over the way forward.

REX at Zita 02.11-03.11.19 Activities for children, ages 4-12 years
Zoetropes and Praxinoscopes 19th Century Animation for all ages! Try out drawing moving images like they did 150 years ago! A movie is actually many still images following each other. Before film cameras, there where machines with fun names, like zoetrope and praxinoscope. Make your own filmstrip and see it come to life through a hand cranked gramophone. We draw films, 12 frames long – GIFs, like they did them in the 1800s. A fun way for kids and adults to explore time, speed, motion, and how things come alive with animation.

Stop motion-workshop for kids! Make your own animated film. Learn some tricks of the trade from two professionals. Today, many people have access to the tools needed (a smartphone with a camera) to make their own stop motion films, but here, children are guided by a real animator to think about motion and pauses. Since it’s Halloween, craft material will be provided to create some really spooky films, with spiders and other creepy characters. We build our own tripods using Lego and, of course, we celebrate the openings of our films with popcorn and juice!
